Cyclists in pace-setting event raise more than $4.9 million
Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer hits lucky number 7
In its seventh lucky year as one of Quebec’s leading fundraising events, the Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer brought together 1,347 cyclists and several hundred crew members from across the province to raise more than $4.9 million.
Proceeds from the trek on July 11 and 12 will support cancer research, treatment and prevention at the JGH and at partner institutions throughout Quebec. By the end of the journey of more than 200 kilometres from Montreal to Quebec City, the determined participants had pushed the Ride’s seven-year grand total to more than $41 million.
The event also typified the partnerships that the JGH has developed with healthcare institutions across the province, with proceeds supporting not just the Segal Cancer Centre at the JGH, but the University of Quebec Hospital Centre Foundation and the Trois-Rivières Regional Hospital Centre Foundation.
A hot, sunny weekend greeted the high-spirited participants, who left Repentigny on Saturday morning and spent the night in camp in Trois‑Rivières, where they enjoyed hot meals and entertainment. On Sunday, they arrived at the finish line in Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures, just outside Quebec City, to cheers of excited relatives, friends and supporters.
