Dr. Gerald Batist elected to Royal Society of Canada

Dr. Gerald Batist, Director of the Segal Cancer Centre and Deputy Director of the Lady Davis Institute for Medical Research at the JGH, has been named a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada (RSC).

Dr. Batist, who is also Head of the Cancer Axis at the LDI, Director of the McGill Centre for Translational Research in Cancer, and Professor of Oncology at McGill University, will be inducted into the RSC at its annual Celebration of Excellence and Engagement in Montreal on November 14.

Election to the RSC is considered to be among the highest honours an individual can achieve in Canadian intellectual life. New Fellows and Scholars are chosen by their peers for making remarkable contributions to knowledge and to public life.

Founded in 1882, the RSC is Canada’s national academy, dedicated to recognizing and celebrating distinguished scholars, artists, and scientists.

This is the latest of many honours that Dr. Batist has received during his career, including appointments as a Member of the Order of Canada and as a Knight of the National Order of Quebec, and an Award for Exceptional Leadership in Cancer Research from the Canadian Cancer Research Alliance.

Dr. Batist is internationally known for his research and as a pioneer in personalized medicine, in which therapies are custom-designed to target and treat specific cancers.
