Dr. Marie Hudson appointed Chief of the Division of Rheumatology
Dr. Marie Hudson has been appointed Chief of the JGH Division of Rheumatology, having served on staff since 2006. She succeeds Dr. Laeora Berkson, Interim Chief since 2020, who remains a member of the division.
Dr. Hudson is also an Associate Professor at McGill University in the Department of Medicine, where she is Director of the Division of Rheumatology.
As a clinician-investigator affiliated with the Lady Davis Institute at the JGH, she has focused her research on systemic autoimmune rheumatic diseases, particularly systemic sclerosis and autoimmune myositis.
Dr. Hudson played a key role in founding the Canadian Scleroderma Research Group, a national collaboration that has enrolled more than 1,700 patients over 15 years. In addition, she established the Canadian Inflammatory Myopathy Study, a multi-centre cohort focused on autoimmune myositis. Both organizations have gained international recognition for their contributions to research.
Locally, Dr. Hudson directs the Montreal Immune-Related Adverse Event Biobank, while on a national scale, she co-leads the Canadian Research Group of Rheumatology in Immuno-Oncology, a cohort study examining rheumatic immune-related adverse events in cancer patients.
Dr. Hudson graduated from McGill, where she completed her residency and fellowship training. In 2003, she received a Master’s degree in Public Health (Epidemiology) from Columbia University and, in 2006, a post-doctoral degree in Epidemiology from McGill.
She served as Co-Director of the McGill Interdisciplinary Initiative in Infection and Immunity from 2019 to 2024, and she takes an active role in mentoring the next generation of rheumatologists and in advancing research in the field.
