Dr. Michelle Elizov appointed Chief of General Internal Medicine

Dr. Michelle Elizov has been named Chief of the JGH Division of General Internal Medicine, succeeding Dr. Rubin Becker, who had held the position since 1994 and continues as an active member of the division.

Dr. Elizov, an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine at McGill University, joined the hospital in 2000, having graduated from McGill’s MDCM program and completed her residency and fellowship training in general internal medicine at the JGH.

In 2004, she received a Master’s degree (with honours) in health professions education from the University of Maastricht in the Netherlands, where her thesis focused on teaching in the ambulatory care setting.

During her career, Dr. Elizov has distinguished herself in various leadership roles, including at McGill as Chair of the Competence Committee of the General Internal Medicine Postgraduate Training Program; and as Vice-Chair of the Specialty Committee in General Internal Medicine of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

In addition, she has served as the Director of University and Medical Education for CIUSSS West-Central Montreal; Interim Director of McGill’s Division of General Internal Medicine; and Associate Dean of Faculty Development at McGill.

Dr. Elizov takes over from Dr. Becker, who has been thanked by Dr. Vicky Tagalakis, Physician-in-Chief of the JGH Department of Medicine, for his “significant contributions to the division and the institution.

“He built the division from the foundation and mentored its members with enthusiasm and a genuine desire to foster the growth of individuals and of the division in clinical and academic missions. The division’s cohesiveness, collegiality and care for one another stem in large part from the leadership he provided.”
