Dr. Sabin Filimon joins JGH Division of Cardiology
Dr. Sabin Filimon has joined the Division of Cardiology at the JGH, with an appointment as Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at McGill University.
Dr. Filimon’s research will focus on cardio-oncology, with an emphasis on understanding, detecting and managing a particular type of myocarditis (inflammation of the heart muscle).
He will also explore applying artificial intelligence to various aspects of cardio-oncology, including improving the prediction of risk, automating the interpretation of imaging, and supporting clinical decision-making.
After receiving his M.D. from McGill in 2017, Dr. Filimon completed residencies in internal medicine and adult cardiology at McGill, followed by a two-year fellowship in cardio-oncology and echocardiography at the Perlman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.
Building on his experience in the United States, Dr. Filimon will combine advanced echocardiographic techniques and biomarker discovery to identify early signs of myocardial injury in cancer patients.
In addition, he plans to develop and assess tailored cardiac rehabilitation programs for cancer survivors to optimize functional recovery and long-term cardiovascular health.
Dr. Filimon work’s will be carried out in close inter-disciplinary collaboration with the Department of Oncology and the Division of Hematology at the JGH, in order to advance knowledge, improve patient care and build a strong foundation for future research in this field.
