CIUSSS nursing consultant appointed Assistant Dean at McGill

Jessica Emed, Nursing Clinical Consultant for Quality, Accreditation and Professional Development in CIUSSS West-Central Montreal, has been appointed Assistant Dean of Health Professions Education in the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University.

Working with senior members of McGill staff, Ms. Emed will be responsible for implementing the university’s Education Strategic Plan as it pertains to the Health Professions programs. Among the plan’s objectives is to focus on promoting and advancing learner-centred approaches to teaching, interprofessional education and educational research and scholarship.

Ms. Emed will also work closely with the Assistant Dean of Biomedical Science Education, and will also serve as a member of the Steering Educational Excellence Committee and the Education Leadership Council.

Ms. Emed, who had previously served at the JGH as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Acute Care Medicine and as member of the Thrombosis Team, has been a faculty lecturer at McGill’s Ingram School of Nursing since 2004.

At the JGH, she was the recipient of the Archie Deskin Scholarship in 2005 and the Excellence in Teaching Award in 2014. In addition, she has received writing awards from the Journal of Vascular Nursing and the Oncology Nurses Society.

The main areas of Ms. Emed’s research interest include patient engagement and the transfer of education and knowledge, particularly in the field of venous thromboembolism (VTE). She has also led various patient safety initiatives related to VTE, and she currently co-leads initiatives on fall prevention, prevention of pressure injuries (bedsores), and alternatives to restraining CIUSSS healthcare users.
