From the archives: Lamps for students in the JGH School of Nursing

At a special ceremony in the 1950s, students in the JGH School of Nursing received their nurses’ caps after their first several months of studies. They were also given a small lamp reminiscent of the one held by Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing. A lighted candle was placed in the hole on the top-left surface of the lamp.

The Jewish General Hospital’s 85th anniversary is an ideal occasion to take a glimpse into the past. By remembering the extraordinary efforts of the hospital’s founders, supporters, staff and volunteers, we honour the enduring legacy of the JGH.
