The JGH’s first birthing room featured a comfortable double bed, a rocking chair and a crib for the baby. There was also an adjoining room where the new parents could relax with visitors.

In 1980, the JGH became the first McGill University teaching hospital to open a birthing room, in whose home-like setting mothers went into labour, delivered their babies and recovered.
