Dr. Vicky Tagalakis, a clinician-researcher who focuses on the epidemiology of venous thrombotic disorders, has been appointed Chief of the Department of Medicine.
Two new physicians have been appointed at the JGH—Dr. Jill Pancer in the Division of Endocrinology and Dr. Maude Peretz-Larochelle in Division of Cardiology.
Dr. Joel Turner, of the JGH Emergency Department, has won the 2019 Educator of the Year Award from the Canadian Point of Care Ultrasound Society. By teaching doctors how to use ultrasound at the bedside, he helps them make diagnoses more quickly and accurately.
Quicker care for certain medical conditions is now offered by the JGH Clinical Access Service, as an alternative to the Emergency Department. It handles referrals from family doctors whose patients have serious problems that require prompt attention.
Dr. Bernard Lapointe, Chief of the JGH Division of Palliative Care, has received a Lifetime Achievement Award.
