New book examines how Sheila Kussner and Hope & Cope forged a breakthrough in supporting cancer patients.
In 1981, Hope & Cope was launched under the auspices of the JGH Auxiliary to use specially trained volunteers (many of whom were cancer survivors) to support and counsel cancer patients and their families.
Butterflies, Hope & Cope’s uplifting symbol, took to the air by the dozens on July 3, 2007, at the climax of inaugural ceremonies for the JGH Hope & Cope Wellness Centre.
Sheila Kussner, Founder and Past Chair of Hope & Cope, has been appointed to the Order of Montreal at the rank of Commander, the highest level of the Order.
More than 30 years after cancer patients and survivors began benefiting from the desperately needed comfort, advice and support of Hope & Cope, Sheila Kussner, O.C., O.Q., was formally honoured for founding the internationally renowned organization.
